There has been a rise in the number of STD cases in recent years. The number of sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea is on the rise. In 2016, also the number of STD cases were high. There were more than 2 million STD cases in the United States alone which is raising concerns. This data has been released by federal data.

The trend of this disease is specifically seen among women, gay, bisexual men. Infants are also becoming the victim of this disease as it gets transmitted from pregnant women’s. This drastic increase in the number is raising concerns among the general public and the health experts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that out of the total diagnosed individuals more than 50% are women.

The recent estimates which come from CDC suggest that there has been sharp 4.7% increase in the number of chlamydia cases compared to the number recorded in 2016. The growth in the number is worrying. Also, an increase in the number of gonorrhea and syphilis cases is affecting the new population. The number of syphilis cases has shown 17.6 % increase compared to the previous estimates. Women are mostly affected by these diseases.

The newly born infants have shown a 27.6% increase in the number of congenital syphilis cases. In order to stop the spread of disease to infection to next generation, a simple STD test should be carried out and antibiotic treatment can help. The number of gonorrhea cases among gay and bisexual individuals has also increased significantly.

The number of STD cases in which is 2 million is really worrying which asks for prompt actions. However, the number of other STDs like HIV, herpes is not yet recorded by CDC. If CDC also adds the count of HIV, herpes and other STDs than the number would have crossed 20 million. These disorders can cause a serious threat to the individuals and can cause neurological disorders, infertility, and risk of HIV infection.

Lack of awareness programs, debates, sex education right from school is leading to this issue. Also, the symptoms of these disorders are not visible at an early stage due to which it is difficult for health experts to diagnose this condition during the stage. Some people also hesitate to visit doctors and ask for medication.
